At the end of 2022, I saw a cutie tweet by Tyler Gaca that said “My new year’s resolution is to be pretty and have fun”. I remember immediately laughing, saving it and even sharing it. How cute and fun and silly! Like most things found on social media, I promptly forgot about it. That is, until I actually started to think about my new year’s goals. The tweet floated back into my brain—this was just a silly little throw away thought, right? Meant for giggles and nothing more.
But then I got to thinking,
What if my New Year’s resolution actually is to be pretty and have fun? For a whole year!
Is that…ridiculous? Delusional? Or low key brilliant and wonderful?
I decided on the latter as I let the idea sit in my spirit. Thinking about prioritizing being pretty and having fun made the corners of my mouth perk up, it put a pep in my step and literally made me giggle out loud. Like I was audibly making “hehe!” noises and feeling giddy. The vibes are literally everything! Who was I to deny these magical, sparkly vibes that were emanating out of me?! So I decided right then and there, when it came to decision making, everything would go through the pretty and fun filter. Is it pretty? Is it fun? Then it’s an automatic yes. Anything less would make me pause, and ultimately pass on opportunities I normally would have begrudgingly said yes to because I thought I should.
The pretty and fun filter changes everything.
Now reader, I hear you. Not everything in life is pretty and fun. The world is actually a dumpster fire! We have to do things we don’t want to do sometimes! And look, I get it. I literally get it. This is the part of my brain that says making this your filter for life decisions is stupid and frivolous and not based in reality. But that’s all the more reason to sprinkle pretty and fun things into your life, don’t you think? The world is a dumpster fire! You might as well throw on some press-on nails so you can feel something!
Also let’s not get it twisted—being pretty and having fun is for literally everyone. Being pretty doesn’t mean you have to look a certain way, it’s a vibe (duh!) Being pretty is the sparkle in your eye when you laugh at a joke, it’s relaxing poolside in a pink polka dot bathing suit feeling completely at ease, it’s the ribbon you wrap around your ponytail just because. Your version of pretty and fun is completely your own, which is what makes it magic. Here’s a short list of things I consider pretty and fun.

Nail Polish

Faux freckles

Also, if you need to do something that is not pretty and fun (your taxes, the dentist, getting the oil changed in your car) pull from your list to make the task more pretty and fun. As in, wearing gingham and lace to the dentist because why not? Life is too short not to be pretty and have fun. I made a little flowchart for you because I asked myself, would a cutie little decision flow chart be pretty and fun? The answer was YES! So here it is 🥰
Summer is a great time to be pretty and have fun and I hope you’re inspired to make your own list. Please feel free to share your own in the comments so we can inspire each other! I’m literally always on the hunt for more pretty and fun things so let a girl know. Ooo also! If you end up making a decision using the pretty and fun filter, I’d love to hear about it. Tbh it’s helped me save a lot of money 😂
Cheers to a pretty and fun summer!
xx, Kristen
