Besties, I had a very strong yoga girl era in my late 20s.
I taught and practiced yoga basically everyday.
I meditated.
I became a life coach and coached clients.
I was deep into personal development.
I learned so much during that time, but I eventually lost myself in positive affirmations that felt hokey pokey and not real.
I thought success and confidence needed to show up in a certain way—flashy. Loud.
Even my self care practices became regimented and just not the vibe.
I needed to take a break from the wellness world to cut out the noise of what I thought I should be doing, thinking, saying.
Once I stepped away from it all, I remembered that my confidence shows up as calm, grounded energy. Sure footed. It’s like I have an inner cool girl who’s like, “Oh yeah, we’re totally making this happen. It’s just a matter of time, girl. Just work hard and be patient.” And then, when I achieve the goal or do the thing, the inner cool girl nods knowingly. She smiles and says, “Ah, there you are. I’ve been expecting you.” Then she lets out a contented sigh and says,
“Everything works out for me.”
I call on this inner cool girl often, because it’s easy to default to the girl who’s a little more cautious, the girl who needs permission, the girl who is just generally unsure and fearful. Whenever I notice that my vibes are off, there’s a phrase that always brings me back to that inner cool girl.
“Everything works out for me.”
Besties, this mantra always works. At least for me. Whether you’re riding high or feeling a lil down in the dumps. If you can convince yourself that everything works out for you, you’re golden. Even if it’s a bit delulu (or is it?). I’ve learned that being older, wiser and hotter means that everything is always working out. Of course it is. How could it not be? Want to try for yourself? Let’s start small.
Did you wake up this morning?
Everything is working out for you, babe.
Did you make yourself a fun little drink in your cutie kitchen today?
Everything works out for you!
Oh no, did you run out of your favorite creamer? Ugh.
… but is a grocery store not too far that has it?
Omg you’re so lucky! Everything is working out for you!
Once you start slow and start paying attention, the vibes will start vibing. Here’s a short list of little moments that make me feel truly lucky.
Whenever I make a Starbucks mobile order and my drink is ready exactly as I walk in the door.
Whenever I get a perfect parking spot. I call it princess parking which makes it even more fun and exciting. Omg princess parking! Wow I’m so lucky. Everything works out for me!
Whenever I feel insecure, anxious or down, and then a solution to my problem pops up out of nowhere, or I know where I can turn to find one (a Substack, a book, a friend calls—it makes me genuinely think, wow I’m so lucky. Everything works out. Always.)
Now, I understand that I live an incredibly privileged life. If you’re reading this (probably on your phone or a laptop with internet and a roof over your head) you probably do too. I also understand that being a human means we’re going to feel all the feelings and experience a lot of things. We’re going to hurt. Bad things happen to good people. Life doesn’t make sense sometimes. This phrase isn’t meant to be toxic positivity. Because besties—the vibe is literally everything.
Affirmations don’t work if the vibes are off.
Self care practices don’t work if the vibes are off.
If you try to make yourself not feel sad or angry or upset or any other uncomfortable emotion you’d rather not feel—and a positive feeling or attitude feels disingenuous—it’s probably because it is. Sometimes you just gotta sit in those uncomfortable feelings so that eventually you can move through them.
But when an affirmation actually does start to vibe?
When a thought or belief feels good to have?
And when you can prove it to be true and not feel silly about it?
That’s when the magic starts to happen.
“Everything works out for me” works for me because I can prove it. I can feel it. Even when my circumstances aren’t ideal, I know it’s just a matter of time before the tide turns. It’s also really cute and fun when unexpected joy starts to pop up in to your life. Because duh, everything works out. And tbh if you’re looking for a scientific explanation for why affirmations work or don’t work—you’ve come to the wrong place. There are lots of articles out there that can explain, and they do a much better job than I could. I’m no psychologist, I run on vibes and vibes alone. It’s a gut feeling, and the girls that get it get it, ya know?
So if you’ve been feeling down, or maybe you just needed the reminder (cause I sure did), and you want to sprinkle a little more magic and a little more fun (!) into your life, focus on all the good. It’s the small things like our pumpkin coffees, our shopping dates with friends, painting our nails, spritzing perfume—these are the things that make up the bulk of our days. Why not remind ourselves that these are the things that truly make us lucky? That prove to us that we’re doing alright? Who’s to say you’re not the luckiest girl in the world?
Cause after all—everything works out for you, right? 😉💫
Since I’m not a “girlie “ I don’t know if I’m supposed to be reading this but this is so true it’s harder than it sounds you really have to change your mindset it doesn’t happen fast but I do agree with everything you said except for princess parking won’t catch me saying that lol
That’s a great mantra and it clearly resonates with you. My current one is “let it go,” which helps me to put little things into perspective. Also “it costs nothing to be kind.” Well done.💕
